Just like people with vision, people who are blind or visually impaired have different interests and abilities. Educational pathways for people who are blind or visually impaired are often the same as for people with normal vision. With the help of special education resources, there are many educational opportunities for people with visual impairments. Depending on a child`s unique needs, visually impaired children attend school in environments ranging from general education classrooms to private schools for the blind. Worldwide, an estimated 1.3 billion people live with some form of visual impairment, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). While 188.5 million people have mild visual impairment and 217 million have moderate to severe visual impairment, 36 million people are blind. It is important to realize that apart from „total blindness,“ none of these definitions give a clear picture of how a particular person can see, as vision has many dimensions. And a particular visual diagnosis doesn`t tell you what someone is capable of. An employer`s perception of disability is often the biggest barrier that visually impaired and blind people face when looking for work. According to the ADA, a person with a disability should be treated in the same way as a person who does not have a disability.
In addition, workplaces must take into account workers` disabilities by providing them with the things they need for their work. (Most states also have their own laws that protect workers with disabilities. The number of potential jobs for blind people continues to rise, a trend that is expected to continue. New technologies and changing attitudes are opening more and more doors for visually impaired people in the labour market. In fact, the American Foundation for the Blind has identified more than 300 careers in which people with visual impairments thrive. This is partly because advances in assistive technologies have opened the door to more jobs for visually impaired workers. However, the overall employment rate of people with visual impairments or legal blindness remains relatively low. (Only about 37% of people with visual impairments have full-time jobs.) Another necessity or condition than these kitchen appliances, which are necessary for blind cooks to easily navigate and cook in the kitchen, is organization.
