Alleging that „the absence of counsel for tenants in eviction cases is a violation of a fundamental human right,“ the Cleveland City Council today introduced a bill to create a right to counsel in eviction cases in the Cleveland Housing Court. Our Constitution guarantees access to free legal assistance when a person is accused of a serious crime and cannot afford a lawyer.
